About me

I am not a chef, but I’ve spent a lot of time in the kitchen. I always cooked for my family, and I have the most beautiful memories of eating together around the table and sharing my childhood stories with my children. My two sons and daughter were always involved in the preparations for holiday meals. It was such an amazing time! My kids grew up and left the house, but I am still cooking…

I was born and raised in the multicultural, kind, and very hospitable land of Kazakhstan. My heritage is a blend of Ukrainian from my mother and Russian from my father. I had wonderful friends, local Kazakh girls, who often invited me to their homes. These visits allowed me to become acquainted with the fascinating Kazakh traditions and culture. One beautiful aspect of Kazakh culture is the hard work and respectful attitude towards bread. I realized what was normal for them to eat and communicate with family and friends while sitting on the floor on tatami mats. I will never forget the scent of freshly baked lepyoshkas. The locals in Kazakhstan baked these flatbreads in a special bread oven, sticking the dough to the scorching walls after heating. I also adored how they prepared plov—a fantastic rice dish with meat, carrots, onions, peppers, and various spices. Plov was cooked in a giant cast-iron kazan, the traditional cookware for this dish, over an open fire, typically by men, and served at community feasts. During holidays, the family that made the plov would share a portion of it with their neighbors.
Growing up in a large family, our mother, despite having little, managed to cook deliciously. I would love to share some of her recipes with you.
